Viewing content in Challo

When you view a document shared in a Challo track, Challo uses an appropriate viewer from those available to display the content to you. Which viewer Challo uses depends on what the source of the content is, and how your organization’s Challo administrator configures your instance of Challo.

Typically, Challo uses the provider’s viewer for a particular document type—for example, it uses Google’s viewer for Google documents, or you can preview many file types in Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint, without installing the application used to create the file, as shown in the content viewers list below. If a member of a Challo track chooses to view a document, but they do not have access to a specific viewer for it, then Challo uses the browser to display the latest saved version of the file. This means that different members of the track who are viewing a shared document may have different views of that document; in the case of files on a Google Drive, some members of the track may be able to edit the file also, depending on their permissions in the Google Drive.

Use the following table to find out which viewer Challo uses when you view content:

Restricting or enabling the Google viewer and Google drive

Challo can view documents on a Google drive, and use the Google viewer, if configured to do so.

You can restrict or enable these Google drive and Google viewer settings for your users; the settings apply for all users in your organization. When a user in your organization views content in a track from another organization, the settings for the user’s organization still apply, rather than the settings for the track’s organization.

The differences between Google drive and Google viewer are explained as follows:

When Google drive is enabled in Challo:

  • For a compatible file that is stored on Google drive, Challo retrieves the URL from Google, then uses that link to view the file using the Google viewer.

When Google drive is not enabled in Challo:

  • A file that is saved on a Google drive that you want to share needs to be made available in a compatible format, in another location. This may be restricted by your organization’s information security policy.

When the Google viewer is enabled in Challo:

  • For a compatible file that is stored somewhere else other than on a Google drive, Challo generates a URL, then uses that link to view the file using the Google viewer.
  • The Google viewer may be used for any compatible file, as in the table above, not just for files created using Google Workspace applications (formerly known as G Suite).
  • Microsoft OneDrive files may be viewed in the Google viewer in instances where the native OneDrive viewer is restricted or unavailable in an organization.

When the Google viewer is not enabled in Challo:

  • Challo is usually able to view files using another method, as in the table above. This may be restricted by your organization’s information security policy.

To change the Google drive and Google viewer settings in Challo:

  • Log into Challo as the tenant administrator, then under the Tenant Settings > File viewers set the options that you require:
